Basketball Recap: Martin County Drops Season-High Score on Johnson Central

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Martin County). They walked away with a 101-89 win over the Johnson Central Golden Eagles on Friday. This was a revenge game for the Cardinals: when they faced off against the Golden Eagles two weeks ago, they had to take a 91-87 loss.

Several Golden Eagles players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Brayden Shepherd, who went 11-for-23 on his way to 31 points along with seven boards and three steals. The contest was Shepherd's eighth in a row with at least 18 points. Another player making a difference was Austin Slone, who dropped a double-double with 32 points and 13 rebounds.

Martin County's victory bumped their record up to 17-9. As for Johnson Central, their defeat ended a four-game streak of away wins and brought them to 14-8.

Coming up, Martin County will welcome Magoffin County at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. Martin County knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with 55 points or more in their past ten matches -- so hopefully Magoffin County likes a good challenge. As for Johnson Central, they have already played their next game, a 95-86 loss against Pineville on the 15th.
