Baseball Recap: Mechanicsburg Starts Season with Victory on the Road

Mechanicsburg had to travel to play their first game of the season, but the final result was worth the trip. They put the hurt on the Mansfield Christian Flames with a sharp 16-2 victory on Tuesday. The win continues a trend for the Indians in their matchups with the Flames: they've now won four in a row.

Colton Walborn and Conner Eyink made a big impact no matter where they played. On the mound, Walborn pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Eyink tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. At bat, Walborn scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-4, while Eyink scored two runs and stole a base while getting on base in four of his five plate appearances.

In other batting news, Matthew Davis was incredible, scoring three runs and stealing three bases while getting on base in all five of his plate appearances. The team also got some help courtesy of Carter Browning, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with one home run and three runs.

Mechanicsburg always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .561. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Mansfield Christian only posted an OBP of .158.

Mansfield Christian's loss was their fifth straight at home dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 0-3.

Looking ahead, Mechanicsburg will welcome Ponitz Career Tech at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. As for Mansfield Christian, they will venture away from home to face off against Vanlue at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday.
