Basketball Preview: Mount Vernon Patriots vs. Dugway Mustangs
Mount Vernon is 10-0 against the Mustangs since November of 2018, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Wednesday. The Mount Vernon Patriots will be playing at home against the Dugway Mustangs at 6:00 p.m. Both teams come into the matchup bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Last Wednesday, Mount Vernon didn't have too much trouble with the Eagles at home as they won 50-32. Mount Vernon pushed the score to 44-24 by the end of the third, a deficit the Eagles cut but never quite recovered from.
Gabe Jackson was his usual excellent self, scoring 15 points. Another player making a difference was Andrew McMurdie, who scored 11 points along with six rebounds.
Meanwhile, Dugway had to endure a 24-game losing streak dating back to last season, but that streak is no more. They blew past Utah School for the Deaf & Blind 60-38. Dugway's offense stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most points they've scored all season.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Dugway to victory, but perhaps none more so than Hazen Bullcreek, who scored 22 points. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Bullcreek has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Trevor Johnson, who scored 17 points.
Mount Vernon is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four games, which provided a massive bump to their 6-10 record this season. As for Dugway, their win ended a ten-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 1-9.
This contest is shaping up to be a blowout: Mount Vernon hasn't had any problem running up the score this season, having averaged 56.5 points per game. It's a different story for Dugway, though, as they've been averaging only 31.9 points per game. The only thing between Mount Vernon and another offensive beatdown is the Mustangs. Will they be able to keep them contained?
Everything came up roses for Mount Vernon against the Mustangs when the teams last played back in January as the squad secured a 72-28 victory. With Mount Vernon ahead 47-15 at the half, the contest was all but over already.
