Basketball Recap: Ryker Kerekes' Big Game Can't Quite Lead Riverton over Mountain Ridge

Riverton was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their eighth straight loss. They fell 76-64 to the Mountain Ridge Sentinels. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Silverwolves this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 70-66 back in January.

Riverton lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Ryker Kerekes, who went 8 for 18 en route to 25 points. Another player making a difference was Blake Robbins, who posted 17 points in addition to six boards and three steals.

Even though they lost, Riverton was working as a unit and finished the game with 19 assists. That's the most assists they've posted since back in December of 2024.

Mountain Ridge had a senior duo take command as Will Lindsay dropped a double-double on 27 points and 13 rebounds and Landon Blackwell had 15 points along with six assists and three steals. Lindsay has become a key player for Mountain Ridge: the team is 8-4 when he posts at least eight boards, but 2-6 otherwise. Sawyer Howell was another key player, putting up nine points and six rebounds.

Riverton's defeat dropped their record down to 7-14. As for Mountain Ridge, the win got them back to even at 10-10.

Riverton and Mountain Ridge could both be facing uphill battles in their next games considering their disadvantage in the MaxPreps Utah Rankings. Riverton will take on Corner Canyon at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday down 51 places (58 vs. 7). Similarly, Mountain Ridge (ranked 44th) will meet Bingham (ranked ninth) at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
