Baseball Game Preview: Edgemont Panthers vs. Hastings Yellow Jackets

The Edgemont Panthers are taking a road trip to challenge the Hastings Yellow Jackets at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, these teams will really light up the scoreboard.

Edgemont will bounce into Wednesday's match after beating Bronxville, who they had gone 1-7-1 against in their nine prior meetings. The Panthers walked away with a 10-5 victory over the Broncos on Tuesday. The high-scoring performance was a welcome turnaround for the Panthers' hitters, who had struggled in the games prior.

Jacob Naya was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He pitched five innings while giving up three earned (and two unearned) runs off three hits. Naya was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in RBI (two).

Naya wasn't the only one making solid contact as two players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Ammaar Shariff, who scored a run while going 2-for-4.

Meanwhile, Hastings gave up the first runs on Tuesday, but they didn't let that get them down. They came out on top against Pawling by a score of 10-6.

The team relied heavily on Kieran McGrath, who went 3-for-4 with one home run, six RBI, and two runs. He is becoming a predictor of Hastings' success: when he posts at least two runs the team is undefeated (and 1-4 when he doesn't). The team also got some help courtesy of Charlie Richardson, who scored three runs and stole five bases while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances.

Edgemont's first win this season bumped their record up to 1-5. As for Hastings, the victory got them back to even at 4-4.

Edgemont might still be hurting after the 12-0 defeat they got from Hastings in their previous matchup back in April of 2024. Can the Panthers avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
