El Segundo let Chase Mattoon and Logan Brooks run wild. Mattoon fired off two home runs, three runs, and three RBI while going 2-for-4, while Brooks went 2-for-3 with one home run, three runs, and one stolen base. That's the most runs Brooks has posted since back in February of 2025. Jaiden Rico was another key player, getting on base in four of his five plate appearances with one stolen base and one run.
El Segundo always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .641. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Meanwhile, Simi Valley posted their closest victory since March 30th on Friday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 4-3 win over Moorpark. The victory continues a trend for the Pioneers in their matchups with the Musketeers: they've now won seven in a row.
Jackson Plagenza looked comfortable as he tossed 2.1 innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Jaden Laufer was incredible, going 2-for-3 with one home run, four RBI, and one double. Another player making a difference was Daniel Pina, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one run and one double.
El Segundo's record is now 14-4. As for Simi Valley, their record now sits at 12-9.
El Segundo couldn't quite get it done against Simi Valley when the teams last played back in March of 2024 as they fell 4-0. Can the Eagles avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
