Basketball Game Preview: Notre Dame Fighting Irish vs. Signal Mountain Eagles

The Notre Dame Fighting Irish will face off against the Signal Mountain Eagles at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday.

Notre Dame is probably headed into the game with a chip on their shoulder considering Gatlinburg-Pittman just ended the team's three-game winning streak last Saturday. They took a 56-45 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Highlanders. While losing is never fun, the Fighting Irish can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Tennessee basketball rankings (they are ranked 174th, while the Highlanders are ranked 40th).

Notre Dame's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Gaas Herman, who posted 18 points, and Maximo Santiesteban, who scored 14 points. The matchup was Herman's seventh in a row with at least ten points. Josh Douglas was another key player, putting up five points.

Meanwhile, Signal Mountain really took it to Scott for the full four quarters, racking up a 64-36 victory. The Eagles have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won four contests by 28 points or more this season.

Notre Dame now has a losing record at 6-7. As for Signal Mountain, the win got them back to even at 6-6.

Notre Dame strolled past Signal Mountain in their previous meeting back in December of 2021 by a score of 60-43. Does Notre Dame have another victory up their sleeve, or will Signal Mountain turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
