Preview: Victory Christian Academy Patriots vs. Millers Creek Christian Lions
Two dominant players in Gabriel Thompson and Cam Layaou are getting ready to go toe-to-toe. The Victory Christian Academy Patriots just played last night, but they'll still head out to face the Millers Creek Christian Lions at 6:30 p.m. on January 16th. One thing working in Victory Christian Academy's favor is that they have posted big point totals every time they've taken the court this season.
Even though Southview Christian scored an imposing 76 points back in December of 2023, Victory Christian Academy still came out on top. Victory Christian Academy walked away with an 84-76 victory over Southview Christian. Given Victory Christian Academy's advantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 245th, while Southview Christian is ranked 520th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Victory Christian Academy found their leader in underclassman Thompson, who scored 31 points. Thompson is absolutely dominating the point category: he's posted at least 15 every time he's taken the court this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Lloyd Hampton, who scored 14 points.
Meanwhile, Millers Creek Christian didn't have too much trouble with Southview Christian at home on Friday as they won 48-33. The win made it back-to-back wins for Millers Creek Christian.
Layaou was his usual excellent self, dropping a double-double on 22 points and ten rebounds. That makes it four consecutive games in which he has scored at least a third of Millers Creek Christian's points. Corban Huffman was another key contributor, dropping a double-double on 14 points and ten rebounds.
Victory Christian Academy's victory was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 6-1. As for Millers Creek Christian, they have been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six games, which provided a nice bump to their 7-3 record this season.
Tuesday's contest is shaping up to be a blowout: Victory Christian Academy hasn't had any problem running up the score this season, having only averaged 71.1 points per game. It's a different story for Millers Creek Christian, though, as they've been averaging only 50.3 points per game. The only thing between Victory Christian Academy and another offensive beatdown is Millers Creek Christian. Will they be able to keep them contained?
Victory Christian Academy came out on top in a nail-biter against Millers Creek Christian when the teams last played back in November of 2023, sneaking past 74-72. One of the biggest obstacles the team faced in that game was Layaou, who dropped a double-double on 33 points and 14 rebounds.
