Recap: Christian Academy Saints vs. Conway Tigers
If the Christian Academy Saints were feeling good off their 55-14 takedown of the St. John's Christian Academy Cavaliers on Tuesday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. Christian Academy took a 49-45 hit to the loss column at the hands of Conway. Christian Academy lost against Conway in their previous head to head back in February, too, but the margin this time around was much wider than the 44-40 score last time.
Christian Academy's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Carly Belle Jackson, who dropped a double-double on 15 points and 10 rebounds. Jackson hasn't dropped below two steals for six straight games. Grace Owens was another key contributor, scoring 17 points along with 5 rebounds.
Conway found their leader in underclassman Rebecca Hemingway, who scored 20 points along with 5 assists and 5 rebounds. That makes it four consecutive games in which Hemingway has scored at least 25% of Conway's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Dymond Bryant, who scored 14 points.
Christian Academy's loss dropped their record down to 6-2. As for Conway, the victory was the third in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 3-1.
Christian Academy will play host again and welcome Cathedral Academy, where tip off is scheduled for 6:00 p.m. on Friday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in South Carolina (Cathedral Academy is ranked 41st, while Christian Academy is ranked 56th). As for Conway, they will head out on the road to face off against Dillon at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully Dillon focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 33 on Tuesday.
