Baseball Game Preview: Coconino Panthers vs. Agua Fria Owls

The Coconino Panthers will head out on the road to square off against the Agua Fria Owls at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Coconino will be strutting in after a victory while Agua Fria will be coming in after a loss.

While Panthers fans will have to keep waiting for their team to come home, they shouldn't be too worried about the road trip considering the result of Wednesday's season opener. Everything went their way against Peoria on Wednesday as Coconino made off with a 13-2 win. The victory continues a trend for Coconino in their matchups with Peoria: they've now won three in a row.

Coconino got a massive performance out of Gavin Woodruff, who scored three runs while going 3-for-4. The dominant performance also gave Woodruff a new career-high in doubles (two). Another player making a difference was Corbin Derr, who scored two runs while going 2-for-3.

Coconino always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .543. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Peoria only posted an OBP of .318.

Meanwhile, Agua Fria fell victim to Liberty and their airtight pitching crew on Wednesday. They lost 12-0 to the Lions. The Owls just can't catch a break and have now endured six defeats in a row dating back to last season.

Everything went Coconino's way against Agua Fria when the teams last played back in February of 2023, as Coconino made off with a 10-0 win. Will Coconino repeat their success, or does Agua Fria have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
