Basketball Recap: Woodruff Comes Up Short

After flying high against Chesnee last Friday, Woodruff came back down to earth. The Wolverines took a 43-39 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Laurens Raiders on Wednesday. The Wolverines haven't had much luck with the Raiders recently, as the team has come up short the last three times they've met.

Despite the loss, Woodruff still got an impressive performance from Jensyn Turner, who almost dropped a double-double with 22 points and nine rebounds. Turner is also on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in each of the last 19 games she's played dating back to last season. Jaylen Means was another key player, putting up nine points and three steals.

Laurens was led to victory by Brianna Allen and Tiyonna Jones. Allen shot 83% from the field to rack up 13 points and six boards, while Jones went 5-for-9 on her way to 13 points. The dominant performance also gave Jones a new career-high in shooting accuracy (56%). Keyorie Yeargin also deserves some recognition as she posted her first blocks of the season.

Woodruff now has a losing record of 3-4. As for Laurens, they have been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five games. That's provided a nice bump to their 5-2 record this season.

Woodruff didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 70-24 loss against Fountain Inn on the 12th. Laurens and White Knoll will compete for holiday cheer at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
