Basketball Recap: Liberty Takes a Loss

Liberty was not able to break out of their rough patch on Saturday as the team picked up their sixth straight loss. They took a blow against the Lewis County Minutemen, falling 91-28. The Mountaineers lost against the Minutemen in their previous head to head back in December of 2023, too, but the margin this time around was even wider than the 69-42 score last time.

Lewis County was led to victory by Kenzie Egress and Ella Pinkney. Egress went 6-for-8 on her way to 12 points along with six rebounds and five steals, while Pinkney went 6-for-8 en route to 14 points and four steals. The dominant performance also gave Pinkney a new career-high in field goal percentage (75%). Paelyn Hinkle was another key player, putting up 11 points and six assists.

Liberty's defeat dropped their record down to 1-17. As for Lewis County, they have been performing well recently as they've won six of their last eight games. That's provided a nice bump to their 12-8 record this season.

Liberty has already played their next matchup (against Moorefield), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing. As for Lewis County, they will face off against Preston at 7:30 p.m. on Monday. Lewis County has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last four games.
