Shenendehowa gave their fans exactly what they wanted out of a home opener on Saturday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 1-0 win over the Mendon Vikings. That's more bragging rights for the Plainsmen, who also won the pair's last head-to-head.

It was an exciting match in which no team won back-to-back sets, but at the end of the day Shenendehowa got the one that really mattered. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-23.

Hadley Ennist paced Shenendehowa's offense, picking up ten kills. Ennist got some help from Jessica Macken and her 16 assists. Macken also made an impact serving: she shared the team lead in aces with Avery Young, racking up two apiece.

Shenendehowa will square off against Guilderland at 4:15 p.m. on Thursday. The contest will give the Plainsmen their first taste of in-conference action this season. As for Mendon, they wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next match, a 2-0 loss against Chautauqua Lake on the 30th.
