Preview: Grandview Wolves vs. Cherokee Trail Cougars
Grandview is 10-0 against Cherokee Trail since February of 2018, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Wednesday. The Grandview Wolves will head out on the road to take on the Cherokee Trail Cougars at 7:00 p.m. Grandview is hoping to put an end to a four-game streak of away losses.
Last Saturday, Grandview came up short against Douglas County and fell 60-47. While losing is never fun, Grandview can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Colorado basketball rankings (they are ranked 128th, while Douglas County is ranked 18th).
Cole Holtman put forth a good effort for the losing side as he scored 12 points along with five rebounds and three steals. Breven Anderson was another key contributor, scoring 13 points along with two steals.
Cherokee Trail can finally bid farewell to their five-game losing streak thanks to their game on Wednesday. They were the clear victor by a 77-55 margin over Rampart. Having run the score up that high, both teams might be doing some extra defensive drills very soon.
Braylen Thomas was his usual excellent self, scoring 17 points along with six rebounds. Another player making a difference was Naode Ghide, who scored ten points along with three steals.
Grandview's defeat dropped their record down to 3-9. As for Cherokee Trail, their victory bumped their record up to 5-6.
This contest is one where the number of possessions is likely to be a big factor: Grandview have been smashing the glass this season, having only averaged 23.8 rebounds per game. It's a different story for Cherokee Trail, though, as they've been averaging only 29.5 rebounds per game. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
Grandview strolled past Cherokee Trail when the teams last played back in February of 2023 by a score of 57-42. The rematch might be a little tougher for Grandview since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
