Baseball Game Preview: Port Allen Pelicans vs. Liberty Magnet Patriots

Port Allen is 0-5 against Liberty Magnet since February of 2021 but things could change on Tuesday. The Port Allen Pelicans will challenge the Liberty Magnet Patriots at 4:00 p.m. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, the two teams will really light up the scoreboard.

Port Allen is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. They were the clear victor by a 20-5 margin over Broadmoor on Monday. With that win, the Pelicans brought their scoring average up to 9.2 runs per game.

James Fontenot was a standout: he scored three runs and stole four bases while getting on base in all three of his plate appearances. Those stolen bases were his first of the season. Another player making a difference was Johnny Payne, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 3-for-3.

Port Allen kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Broadmoor only hit two hits.

Meanwhile, Liberty Magnet won against Warren Easton on Saturday with 13 runs and they decided to stick to that run total again on Saturday. Liberty Magnet beat Warren Easton by the very same score they won with in their prior game: 13-7. The Patriots might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won four matches by six runs or more this season.

Liberty Magnet's victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 4-2. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 13.0 runs over those games. As for Port Allen, they now have a winning record of 2-1-1.

Port Allen came up short against Liberty Magnet in their previous meeting back in March of 2024, falling 5-2. Can Port Allen avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
