Shaker is on a four-game streak of home wins, while Colonie Central is on a five-game streak of away wins: one of those streaks is about to end. The Bison will welcome the Wolfpack at 4:15 p.m. on Wednesday. Shaker is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.2 runs per game this season.
Shaker came out on top against Bethlehem Central on Monday thanks in part to the team's impressive four-run first inning. The Bison took their matchup against the Eagles 7-4.
Daniel Cioffi tossed a big game, striking out seven batters over 4.2 innings while giving up just one earned run off seven hits (and not a single walk).
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Tye Mariano, who went 2-for-3 with two runs and one RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Tom Case, who got on base in three of his five plate appearances with one stolen base, one run, and one double.
Meanwhile, Colonie Central unfortunately witnessed the end of their seven-game winning streak on Friday. They came up short against Niskayuna, falling 9-0. The contest marked the first time this year in which the Wolfpack were not able to get on the board.
Riley Brooks was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out six over five innings pitched. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two hits in four consecutive appearances.
Shaker's win bumped their record up to 8-1. As for Colonie Central, their loss was their first in the league, dropping their league record down to 4-1 and their overall record down to 7-2.
Colonie Central's hitters will have their work cut out for them on Wednesday. Shaker has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 11.9 strikeouts per game. It's a different story for Colonie Central, though, as they've been averaging only 4.1 strikeouts. Will Shaker keep running through batters, or will the Wolfpack buck the trend?
Everything went Shaker's way against Colonie Central in their previous meeting on April 4th, as Shaker made off with a 7-1 victory. Do the Bison have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Wolfpack turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
