Preview: Hylton Bulldogs vs. Freedom Eagles

Hylton is 2-8 against Freedom since October of 2015 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Hylton Bulldogs will head out on the road to face off against the Freedom Eagles at 7:00 p.m. The squads are rolling into the game with opposing streaks: Hylton has struggled recently with four defeats in a row, while Freedom will arrive with 23 straight wins.

Last Friday, Hylton was the victim of a rough 27-7 defeat at the hands of Gar-Field. While losing is never fun, Hylton can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Virginia football rankings (they are ranked 203rd, while Gar-Field is ranked 92nd).

Meanwhile, Freedom can now show off seven landslide victories after their most recent game on Friday. They didn't even let Potomac Senior onto the board and left with a 65-0 win.

Tristan Evans-Trujillo and Jeffrey Overton were among the main playmakers for Freedom as the former threw for 378 yards and four touchdowns while completing 89.5% of his passes and the latter gained 236 total yards and five touchdowns. Evans-Trujillo is on a roll when it comes to passing touchdowns, as he's now passed for three or more in the last seven games he's played. Freedom also got help from Carleton juju Preston who showed off his sure hands for 169 receiving yards.

Hylton's defeat was their fourth straight on the road, which dropped their overall record down to 3-5. Sadly, the team can't blame their woes on tough opposition, as that stretch included 3-6 Charles J. Colgan and 3-5 Potomac Senior (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 39.6% over those games). As for Freedom, their win bumped their record up to 8-0.

Hylton was taken down by Freedom 65-0 in their previous matchup back in October of 2022. Can Hylton avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
