How many Great Lakes teams are in this week's Top 25 high school football rankings?

Silos, smokestacks, steeples and stadium lights. The Great Lakes region is molded by its horizon. North Coast communities are defined - in part - by Friday nights.

Here's our latest look at the top prep football teams in a landscape that houses the Pro Football Hall of Fame, Lambeau Field, the Big Ten Conference, Notre Dame and several of the top high school programs in the history of the sport.

State champs, national acclaim, big-time talent. North Coast football is a force. So are the following teams from Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Minnesota, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin.

1. Mentor (Ohio) – 6-0
Last Week (1): The Cardinals racked up 512 yards of offense and held Solon (Ohio) to 180 in a 41-7 win. The Comets came in averaging 35 points per game. Back-up running back Riley Coughlin ran for 108 yards and three touchdowns. Ranked No. 15 in the MaxPreps Top 25 National Rankings this week.
Next Up: 10/11, 7 p.m. vs Brunswick (Ohio) – 5-1



2. St. Joseph's Prep (Philadelphia) – 3-2
Last Week (2): Junior quarterback Kyle McCord (Ohio State commit) threw four touchdown passes as the Hawks beat Roman Catholic (Philadelphia) 44-7. Ranked No. 24 in the MaxPreps Top 25 National Rankings this week.
Next Up: 10/11, 7 p.m. vs Archbishop Wood (Warminster, Pa.) – 3-3 (at Widener University)

3. Archbishop Hoban (Akron, Ohio) – 5-1
Last Week (4): Junior quarterback Shane Hamm threw for four touchdown passes and ran for another as the Knights beat previously-unbeaten Benedictine (Cleveland) 42-10.
Next Up: 10/12, 7 p.m. at Lake Catholic (Mentor, Ohio) – 3-3

4. Muskegon (Mich.) – 6-0
Last Week (3): The Big Reds clinched their 20th straight playoff berth with a 49-10 win over Jenison (Mich.).
Up Next: 10/11, 7 p.m. vs Union (Grand Rapids, Mich.) – 0-6

5. East St. Louis (East St. Louis, Ill.) – 6-0
Last Week (5): Senior running back DaMonta Witherspoon ran for four touchdowns as the Flyers beat Edwardsville (Ill.) 43-21.
Next Up:
10/12, 1 p.m. vs O'Fallon (Ill.) – 3-3

6. Washington (Massillon, Ohio) – 6-0
Last Week (7): Senior running back Terrance Keyes Jr. carried the ball 16 times for 185 yards and four first half-touchdowns as the Tigers beat Austintown-Fitch (Youngstown, Ohio) 55-7. It was the fifth time this season Massillon reached a running clock in the second half.
Next Up: 10/11, 7:30 p.m. vs Gateway (Monroeville, Pa.) – 6-1

7. Southern Columbia Area (Catawissa, Pa.) – 7-0
Last Week (8):
The Tigers exploded for a 35-0 first quarter lead en route to beating Jersey Shore (Pa.) 56-14. Southern Columbia had 575 yards of offense and held Jersey Shore to minus-57 yards rushing. The Tigers have allowed 20 points in seven games.
Next Up: 10/11, 7 p.m. at Wyoming Area (Exeter, Pa.) – 7-0



8. Lincoln-Way East (Frankfort, Ill.) – 6-0
Last Week (6): Senior back and Michigan recruit A.J. Henning scored two touchdowns and senior quarterback Ty Slager threw two touchdowns as the Griffins beat Lincoln-Way Central (New Lenox, Ill.) 38-2.
Next Up: 10/11, 7 pm vs Lockport (Ill.) – 2-4

9. Muskego (Wis.) – 7-0
Last Week (10):
Junior running back Alex Current ran for three touchdowns (95, 81 and 18 yards) as the Warriors beat Mukwonago (Wis.) 24-7.
Next up: 10/11, 7 p.m. vs Kettle Moraine (Wales, Wis.) – 3-4

10. St. Edward (Lakewood, Ohio) – 5-1
Last Week (NR):
The Eagles scored on their first six possessions en route to beating Buchtel 45-21. Senior quarterback Conor O'Malley threw for two touchdowns and ran for another and senior back Joey Formani ran for two scores. Huge test this week against archrival St. Ignatius (Cleveland).
Next Up:
10/12, 7 p.m. vs St. Ignatius (Cleveland) – 3-3
