Football Recap: Canisius Comes Up Short

Canisius had lost five straight on the road, but on Saturday they dropped down to 6-5 to make it six. They fell 41-34 to the St. Francis Red Raiders. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Red Raiders this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 29-14 on November 1st.

Despite the loss, Canisius still got an impressive performance from Elijah Kimble, who rushed for 199 yards and five TDs while picking up 7.4 yards per carry. Thanks to that big game, Kimble is now up to 23 rushing touchdowns on the season. Canisius also got help from Jack Cullinan, who showed off his sure hands for 91 receiving yards.

As for St. Francis, the victory was the eighth in a row for them, bringing their record up to 10-1. Those wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 41.1 points over those games.

Trent Buttles produced another solid effort throwing for 261 yards and three touchdowns while completing 75% of his passes, and also rushing for 70 yards and one score. Those 261 passing yards gave him a new career-high. Mason Anderson also helped out as he racked up 112 receiving yards.

Canisius does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for St. Francis, they are taking a road trip to take on Iona Prep at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. The Red Raiders will need to watch out since the Gaels have now posted at least 31 points in their last three contests.
