Basketball Recap: Parkside Eagles vs. Friendship Tech Prep Academy Titans
On Tuesday, the Parkside Eagles faced the Friendship Tech Prep Academy Titans in a battle between two of the state's top teams. Parkside was beaten by the Titans 86-56. Parkside's loss signaled the end of their four-game winning streak.
Despite the defeat, Parkside had strong showings from Markeese Coles, who scored 16 points, and Semaj Marshall, who scored 13 points.
Friendship Tech Prep Academy found their leader in underclassman Malik Shackleford, who scored 20 points along with six steals. Shackleford is on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed two or more in the last four games he's played. Another player making a difference was Daniel Bumpass, who scored 16 points.
Parkside's loss ended a six-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 17-9. As for Friendship Tech Prep Academy, their victory was their seventh straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 14-4.
Parkside and the Panthers will face off at 7:00 p.m. on February 1st without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. KIPP College Prep is coming into the game on a three-game losing streak. As for Friendship Tech Prep Academy, they will be playing at home against the Pirates at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Paul Public Charter International will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps District of Columbia Rankings (they are ranked 29th, while the Titans are ranked fifth).
