Hammond Morton and Hebron are an even 3-3 against one another since May of 2017, but likely not for long. The Governors will take on the Hawks at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. Hammond Morton is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 9.1 runs per game this season.
Hammond Morton barely beat Whiting the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Governors put the hurt on the Oilers with a sharp 17-4 win on Thursday. The Governors haven't had any issues with the Oilers recently, as the game was their third consecutive victory against them.
David Shreve and Marcellous McQuay did most of the damage at the plate: Shreve went a perfect 3-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and one stolen base, while McQuay went 3-for-5 with three stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI. That's the most hits Shreve has posted since back in April of 2024. Gerard Garnett also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.
Hammond Morton was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .548. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their batting average total in three consecutive matches.
Hebron let South Newton stack five runs on them in the third inning on Saturday but luckily Hebron prevailed anyway. The Hawks skirted past the Rebels 7-6. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Hawks.
Camden Mulhern looked comfortable as he tossed 3.1 innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Owen Walstra was excellent, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and one double. Another player making a difference was Adam Gill, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one double.
Hammond Morton's record is now 8-11. As for Hebron, their record now sits at 12-8-1.
Monday's contest might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Hammond Morton has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .474. However, it's not like Hebron struggles in that department as they've averaged .433. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Hammond Morton beat Hebron 9-5 in their previous matchup back in May of 2024. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Governors since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
