Basketball Recap: Gianna Crawford's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Fleming Island over Ridgeview

After a string of three wins, Fleming Island's good fortune finally ran out on Tuesday. They fell 50-43 to the Ridgeview Panthers. While losing is never fun, the Golden Eagles can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 222nd, while the Panthers are ranked 68th).

Several Golden Eagles players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Gianna Crawford, who went 6 of 15 en route to 17 points and seven rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Seven Gourdet, who dropped a double-double on 13 points and ten rebounds.

Even though they lost, Fleming Island smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 17 offensive rebounds. That's the most offensive boards they've posted since back in February of 2024.

Ridgeview was led to victory by Narissa Blocton and Nacoya Blocton. Narissa posted 26 points and four steals, while Nacoya put up 13 points along with six rebounds and three steals. That makes it six consecutive games in which Narissa has scored at least a third of Ridgeview's points. Bella Brown was another key player, putting up six points and three steals.

Fleming Island now has a losing record at 8-9. As for Ridgeview, they are on a roll lately: they've won eight of their last nine contests, which provided a nice bump to their 11-3 record this season.

Fleming Island will challenge St. Johns Country Day at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. St. Johns Country Day will roll in looking for their fourth straight victory, something Fleming Island surely won't give up without a fight. As for Ridgeview, a feisty cat fight will be fought when the Ridgeview Panthers duke it out with the The Rock Lions at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Ridgeview is coming into the matchup hot, having won their last six games.
