The Viewmont Vikings will venture away from home to take on the Timpanogos Timberwolves at 3:30 p.m. on Friday. Timpanogos took a loss in their last game and will be looking to turn the tables on Viewmont, who comes in off a win.
Viewmont barely beat Farmington the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. Viewmont blew past Farmington 18-3 on Monday. The victory continues a trend for the Vikings in their matchups with the Phoenix: they've now won four in a row.
Beckham Smith and Cal Miller were a major factor while hitting and pitching. Throwing, Smith pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Meanwhile, Miller tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. That's the fewest hits Smith has allowed since back in March of 2024. At bat, Smith scored two runs while going 3-for-4, while Miller got on base in all five of his plate appearances with two triples, three runs, and three RBI. That's the most hits Smith has posted since back in April of 2024.
In other batting news, James Peterson was a standout: he went a perfect 3-for-3 with four runs, five RBI, and one double. Elias Culley was another key player, going 2-for-4 with five RBI and one run.
Viewmont always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .649. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Farmington only posted an OBP of .278.
Meanwhile, Timpanogos came up short against Mountain Ridge on Thursday, falling 16-7.
Isacc Miller made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-3 with three RBI. Another player making a difference was Collin Morgan, who scored two runs while going 1-for-3.
Viewmont pushed their record up to 2-0 with the win, which was their tenth straight on the road dating back to last season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.1 runs on average over those games. As for Timpanogos, their defeat dropped their record down to 5-3.
Viewmont skirted past Timpanogos 5-4 in their previous matchup back in March of 2024. The rematch might be a little tougher for Viewmont since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
