Volleyball Recap: Bayside Academy Comes Up Short in High-Profile Contest with Fairhope + How To Watch

Bayside Academy faced Fairhope in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Tuesday. The Admirals fell 3-1 to the Pirates. The Admirals were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Pirates earlier this season, when they won 2-1.

The 3-1 score doesn't really reflect how close the match was: every set was decided by three points or less. The final score came out to 22-25, 25-23, 25-22, 25-23.

Despite the loss, Bayside Academy had strong showings from Mary Katherine Whitehurst, who had 14 digs and two aces, and Reece Wilmott, who had 13 kills and six digs. Whitehurst is on a roll when it comes to digs, as she's now had 13 or more in each of the last eight games she's played.

Fairhope can attribute much of their success to HC Miller, who had 11 digs and one assist.

Bayside Academy moved to 23-12 with that defeat, which also ended their three-match winning streak. As for Fairhope, they pushed their record up to 14-14 with the victory, which was their third straight at home.

Coming up, Bayside Academy will challenge Saraland at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Fairhope, they wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next match, a 3-0 win against St. Luke's Episcopal on the 2nd.
