Preview: Wingate Bears vs. Mesa Vista Trojans
The Wingate Bears will finish 2023 at home by hosting the Mesa Vista Trojans at 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Wingate will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps New Mexico Rankings (they are ranked 133rd, while Mesa Vista is ranked 41st).
On December 8th, Wingate came up short against Crownpoint and fell 40-27.
Meanwhile, Mesa Vista entered their tilt with Dulce with two consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with three. Mesa Vista came out on top against Dulce by a score of 66-53 on Tuesday.
It was another big night for Tana Lopez , who scored 33 points along with four steals. That makes it six consecutive games in which she has scored at least 25% of Mesa Vista's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Shanae Silva , who scored 18 points along with three steals.
Wingate's defeat dropped their record down to 1-3. As for Mesa Vista, their victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 4-2.
Wingate didn't have too much breathing room in their contest against Mesa Vista in their previous meeting back in January of 2020, but they still walked away with a 41-35 victory. Will Wingate repeat their success, or does Mesa Vista have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
