Softball Game Preview: Basic Wolves vs. Palo Verde Panthers

The Basic Wolves will head out to take on the Palo Verde Panthers at 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The squads are rolling into the game with opposing streaks: Basic has struggled recently with 15 defeats in a row, while Palo Verde will arrive with six straight victories.

Basic's last matchup with Coronado could've gone either way, but unfortunately the same can't be said for the pair's matchup on Monday. The Wolves came up short against the Cougars, falling 14-0.

Meanwhile, Palo Verde faced Green Valley in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Monday. The Panthers' pitcher stepped up to hand the Gators a 13-0 shutout. The Panthers might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won eight contests by six runs or more this season.

Taylor Johns was incredible, firing off three home runs and two stolen bases while going 4-for-4. She is on a roll when it comes to home runs, as she's now launched at least one in each of the last six games she's played. Kayleen Enriquez was another key player, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with four stolen bases, three runs, and one triple.

Palo Verde always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .571. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Green Valley only posted an OBP of .188.

Basic's loss dropped their record down to 0-15. As for Palo Verde, their record now sits at 13-1.

Basic suffered a grim 11-0 defeat to Palo Verde when the teams last played back in March. Can the Wolves avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
