Baseball Recap: Monticello Comes Up Short

Monticello was not able to break out of their rough patch on Monday as the team picked up their third straight loss. They took an 11-6 hit to the loss column at the hands of the DeWitt Dragons. The Billies were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Dragons apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in March of 2023.

Blaine Hayden made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and got on base in four of his five plate appearances with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. He has become a key player for Monticello: the team is 2-1 when he posts at least two runs, but 7-11 otherwise.

Monticello's loss dropped their record down to 9-12. As for DeWitt, the win (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 15-7.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Monticello will venture away from home to square off against Hamburg at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for DeWitt, they will head out to challenge Central at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
