Preview: Wingfield Falcons vs. McComb Tigers
Wingfield has enjoyed a two-game homestand but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. They will face off against The McComb Tigers at 8:00 p.m. on Thursday. Wingfield will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Mississippi Rankings (they are ranked 225th, while McComb is ranked 19th).
There was early excitement for Wingfield after they claimed the first score on Thursday, but it was Richland who ended up claiming the real prize. Wingfield fell to Richland 26-22.
Meanwhile, McComb put another one in the bag on Friday to keep their undefeated season alive. They took their match at home with ease, bagging a 61-6 victory over Lanier. The result was nothing new for McComb, who have now won six games by 41 points or more so far this season.
It was another big night for Jamarcus Pittman, who threw for 203 yards and three touchdowns on only eight passes, and also punched in a touchdown on the ground. Pittman is on a roll when it comes to passing touchdowns, as he's now passed for three or more in the last four games he's played. Jamarion Mccray also deserves a shout-out for his two touchdowns.
McComb's defense stepped up as well, laying out the QB three times. Leading the way was Albert Sparkman and his two sacks.
McComb's win bumped their season record to 8-0 while Wingfield's loss dropped theirs to 1-7.
Wingfield was taken down by McComb 49-14 when the teams last played back in October of 2022. Can Wingfield avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
