Football Game Preview: St. Paul Catholic Falcons vs. Naugatuck Greyhounds

St. Paul Catholic hasn't had much luck against Naugatuck recently, but that could start to change on Thursday. The Falcons will take on the Greyhounds at 6:30 p.m.

It was a Battle of the Birds when St. Paul Catholic faced off against Wolcott on Saturday. The Falcons fell 24-14 to the Eagles.

Despite the defeat, St. Paul Catholic got top-tier performance from Max Kozikowski, who rushed for 179 yards and a pair of TDs, and also threw for 101 yards. Kozikowski also punched in two rushing touchdowns, which is notable because the Falcons are 2-1 when he posts at least two rushing touchdowns, but 0-5 otherwise. 101 of Kozikowski's passing yards were hauled in by Jack Dennehy.

Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Naugatuck, who bounced back after a loss on the road last Friday. They snuck past Torrington with a 20-16 victory on Friday. The Greyhounds haven't had any issues with the Raiders recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive win against them.

Naugatuck didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Q Lee and Austin Maxim. Another thorn in Torrington's side was Ethan Williams, who forced one fumble and made 14 total tackles (1.0 for loss).

St. Paul Catholic's loss dropped their record down to 2-6. As for Naugatuck, the victory was their first at home , bumping their record up to 3-5.

St. Paul Catholic took a serious blow against Naugatuck in their previous matchup back in September of 2024, falling 42-7. Thankfully for the Falcons, Ryan Deitelbaum (who rushed for 80 yards and two scores on only five carries, and also picked up 51 receiving yards) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result? There's only one way to find out.
