Volleyball Game Preview: Sumner Spartans vs. Curtis Vikings

Sumner hasn't had much luck against Curtis recently, but that could start to change on Tuesday. The Spartans will head out on the road to square off against the Vikings at 7:15 p.m. Sumner will come into the contest with an undefeated record on the line.

Sumner had to skate by with only a one-set margin when they last took the court, which might have inspired the three-set drubbing they dealt Bonney Lake on Wednesday. The Spartans blew past the Panthers 3-0. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last four times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.

While Sumner won a shutout, things came down to the wire in the second set they played. The final score came out to 25-20, 25-22, 25-19.

Brooke Anardi and Rylee Insley were among the main playmakers for Sumner as the former had five digs and two aces and the latter had five digs and two aces.

Meanwhile, Curtis faced Lake Stevens in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Monday. Curtis came up short against Lake Stevens, falling 3-0. The loss was Curtis' first of the season.

Curtis was held off the scoreboard, but that almost wasn't the case: they kept the third set very close. The match finished with set scores of 25-20, 25-19, 25-22.

Sumner's win bumped their record up to 6-0. As for Curtis, their defeat dropped their record down to 7-1.

Sumner might still be hurting after the 3-0 loss they got from Curtis in their previous meeting back in October of 2024. Can the Spartans avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
