Softball Preview: West Union Eagles vs. Bruce Trojans        
        
		
            
 West Union has enjoyed the comforts of home their last three games, but now they'll head out on the road. They will  challenge the Bruce Trojans at 12:00  p.m.  on Saturday. Keep an eye on the score for this one:  the two teams posted some lofty  run totals in their previous games.
 Last Wednesday, while West Union put up plenty of  runs, the same  can't be said for Houlka. West Union was the clear victor by  a  15-0 margin over Houlka. The  victory was just what West Union needed coming off of  a  9-3 defeat in their prior  matchup.
  Sadie Cobb and  Addison Collum made a splash no matter where they played. Throwing,  Cobb   pitched  an inning while giving up   no  earned runs or  hits (she also didn't allow any  walks). Meanwhile,  Collum   pitched two innings while giving up   no  earned runs or  hits (she also didn't allow any  walks). At bat,  Cobb  scored two  runs and  stole a base while going 2-for-2, while  Collum  scored a  run while going 1-for-2.
 In other batting news,  Braley Martin was a standout: she went 3-for-3 with two  triples, two  runs,  and two  RBI.  Mollie Reaves was another key contributor,  going 3-for-3 with three  runs, a  triple,  and  an  RBI.
 Meanwhile, Bruce waltzed into their contest  on Thursday with four straight wins... but they left with five. They put the hurt on the Dragons with a sharp  30-1 win. The result was nothing new for Bruce, who have now won ten games by 12  runs or more  so far this season.
 Like West Union, Bruce also got a great game from a two-way player:  Sammie Gunter. On the mound, she  pitched two innings while giving up   no  earned run or  hits (she also only allowed one  walk). Gunter has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't  given up  a single  walk in three consecutive pitching appearances. Gunter was even better at the plate,  firing off three  home runs, 11  RBI,  and four  runs while going 4-for-4.
 In other batting news,  Ca'Laiah Shackelford was a standout: she scored four  runs and  stole three bases while going 3-for-3. Another player making a difference was  Lexi Bowling, who  went 2-for-3 with a  home run, three  RBI,  and two  runs.
 West Union's victory  ended  a  four-game drought at home  dating back to last season and  bumped them up to 2-8. As for Bruce, they are  on a roll lately: they've  won 11 of their last 12 matches,  which provided a nice bump to their 14-5 record  this season.
 West Union took their  win against Bruce  in their previous meeting  back in February of 2023 by a conclusive  10-2. The rematch might be a little tougher for West Union since the  team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
