Football Recap: North Posey Comes Up Short

Despite a strong season so far, North Posey has seen their luck take a bit of a downturn recently. They took a 54-37 bruising from the Mt. Vernon Wildcats on Friday. The Vikings were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Wildcats apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in August of 2024.

Despite the defeat, North Posey saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Bret Buecher rushed for 235 yards and two scores while picking up 8.1 yards per carry. The team also got some help courtesy of Carter Schickel, who threw for 199 yards and three TDs.

North Posey's loss dropped their record down to 6-3. As for Mt. Vernon, the victory made it two in a row for them and also bumps their season record up to 6-3.

The two teams are set to take part in some playoff action in their next matches. North Posey will square off against Pike Central at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The Vikings will be up against the Chargers' rather soft defense (which has allowed 42.11 points per matchup), so fans could be in store for a big offensive performance. As for Mt. Vernon, they will take on Southridge at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. The Wildcats will need to watch out since the Raiders have now posted at least 31 points in their last three games.
