Softball Recap: Athens Gets the Win

Pawnee typically has all the answers at home, but on Monday Athens proved too difficult a challenge. They came out on top against the Indians by a score of 9-4. For the Warriors, this counts as revenge for the 6-5 victory the Indians walked away with the last time they faced one another back in March of 2024.

Athens let Preslie Buckmaster and Emma Crispen run wild. Buckmaster went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one double, while Crispen went 3-for-4 with three RBI and one run. That's the most hits Crispen has posted since back in April. Jaci Derringer was another key player, going 1-for-3 with two runs and one RBI.

Athens is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 17-9 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.3 runs on average over those games. As for Pawnee, their loss ended a seven-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 15-4.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Athens will take on Central A & M at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Warriors' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Raiders have averaged an impressive 7 runs per game this season. As for Pawnee, they will host Auburn at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
