Softball Preview: Chatfield Chargers vs. Ralston Valley Mustangs

Chatfield hasn't had much luck against Ralston Valley recently, but that could start to change on Monday. The Chatfield Chargers will be playing in front of their home fans against the Ralston Valley Mustangs at 4:30 p.m. Chatfield is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 10.9 runs per game this season.

On Friday, Chatfield got the win against Vista Ridge by a conclusive 16-3. Considering the Chargers have won eight games by more than six runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.

Taylor Zercher made a splash no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over five innings while giving up three earned runs off eight hits. The dominant performance gave her a new career-high in strikeouts. She was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with a double and an RBI.

In other batting news, Kylie Bickford was incredible, scoring four runs and stealing a base while going 3-for-3. Another player making a difference was Ava Burgess, who scored two runs and stole three bases while going 3-for-5.

Perhaps unsurprisingly given the score, Chatfield was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .586. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.

Meanwhile, Ralston Valley came up short against Columbine on Wednesday, falling 14-6. The loss continues a trend for the Mustangs in their matchups with the Rebels: they've now lost four in a row.

Mallory Chavez made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and scored three runs while going 4-for-4. The team also got some help courtesy of Rylee Diebold, who went 1-for-4 with three RBI.

Chatfield has been performing well recently as they've won eight of their last ten contests, which provided a nice bump to their 9-5 record this season. As for Ralston Valley, their defeat dropped their record down to 4-9.
