Softball Recap: Mercy Magic vs. Mount de Sales Academy Sailors
Mercy extended their losing streak to five on Wednesday, dropping their season record down to 1-6 in the process. They lost 14-7 to the Mount de Sales Academy Sailors. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Sailors this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 8-1 on April 2nd.
As for Mount de Sales Academy, the victory (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 11-5. Considering they have won six contests by more than six runs this season, Wednesday's blowout was nothing new.
For Mount de Sales Academy's part, Brooke Fuhr was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over seven innings while giving up four earned (and three unearned) runs off seven hits. Fuhr was also solid in the batter's box, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one double.
In other batting news, Mount de Sales Academy got a massive performance out of Ava McQueen, who went 3-for-4 with four RBI, two runs, and one double. Those four RBI gave McQueen a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Olivia Berger, who got on base in all four of her plate appearances with three runs and three RBI.
Coming up, Mercy will host McDonogh at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Mount de Sales Academy, they will venture away from home to square off against Archbishop Spalding at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. The Cavaliers' pitching crew has only allowed 2.8 runs per game this season, so the Sailors' hitters will have their work cut out for them.
