Softball Recap: Mott Corsairs vs. Royal Oak Ravens
Mott had lost eight straight at home dating back to last season, but on Friday they dropped down to 8-6 to make it nine. They came up short against the Royal Oak Ravens, falling 19-4. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Ravens this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 13-5 on Friday.
As for Royal Oak, the victory (which was their sixth in a row) raised their record to 10-11-1. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 14.2 runs over those games.
For Royal Oak's part, Molly Stevenson was a major factor no matter where she played. On the mound, she tossed five innings while giving up three earned (and one unearned) runs off five hits. Stevenson was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with three runs and one RBI. Those three runs gave her a new career-high.
In other batting news, Laila LaGrand and Alyssa Rozycki did most of the damage at the plate: LaGrand went 3-for-4 with three doubles, three RBI, and two runs, while Rozycki went 2-for-5 with three stolen bases, four runs, and one double. Those three doubles gave LaGrand a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Katelyn Eyster, who got on base in all four of her plate appearances with two runs.
Looking ahead, Mott will host Novi at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Royal Oak, they will take on Troy at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
