Baseball Recap: South Mecklenburg Triumphs

South Mecklenburg won the last time they faced Ballantyne Ridge and things went their way on Thursday too. The Sabres walked away with a 5-2 victory over the Wolves. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Sabres.

South Mecklenburg got a great performance from Brayden Bartholomew as he didn't allow a single earned run while striking out six over five innings pitched. Bartholomew has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up a single earned run in three consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Reese Guertin and Chase Bremer did most of the damage at the plate: Guertin scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-3, while Bremer scored two runs and stole two bases while going 1-for-2. Those two stolen bases gave Bremer a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Andrew Gerow, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base and one RBI.

South Mecklenburg was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .429. They are a perfect 7-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.

South Mecklenburg's record is now 13-7. As for Ballantyne Ridge, they are on a five-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 5-12.

Coming up, South Mecklenburg will take on Hopewell at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. Both teams are headed into the matchup with plenty of momentum (the Sabres have won three straight at home, while the Titans won five straight on the road), something that'll have to change. As for Ballantyne Ridge, they will challenge Butler at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday.
