Basketball Recap: Streator Takes a Loss

Streator was the 58-21 winner over Wilmington when they last played one another back in January, but their luck changed this time around. The Streator Bulldogs were just a bucket shy of victory on Tuesday and fell 51-50 to the Wilmington Wildcats. The loss was a bit of a surprise, as the Bulldogs came into the game with a sizable advantage in MaxPreps' Illinois basketball rankings (they are ranked 140th, while the Wildcats are ranked 329th).

Wilmington can attribute much of their success to Ryan Nelson, who went 8-for-14 to rack up 20 points. The matchup was Nelson's third in a row with at least 16 points. Another player making a difference was Brysen Meents, who posted eight points.

Streator's loss dropped their record down to 23-6. As for Wilmington, their win was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 18-9.

Streator has already played their next contest, a 52-48 defeat against Morton on the 19th. As for Wilmington, a feisty cat fight will be fought as the Wildcats face off against the Bobcats at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday.
