Softball Recap: Clinton Takes a Loss

Clinton fought the good fight in their extra-innings game against Germantown on Tuesday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Germantown Mavericks by a score of 8-7. That's two games in a row now that the Arrows have lost by just one run.

Annalise Whitworth spent all 7.1 innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and five unearned) runs on four hits. The dominant performance also gave her a new career-high in strikeouts (four).

At the plate, Keelyn Constancio and Makenzie Cooley stepped up to the plate in a big way. Constancio scored a run while going 3-for-4, while Cooley scored a run while going 2-for-3. The team also got some help courtesy of Kaelyn Thames, who went 1-for-3 with two RBI.

Clinton dropped their record down to 6-7 with the loss, which was their third straight on the road. As for Germantown, their victory bumped their record up to 10-5.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Clinton will take on Starkville at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. Clinton is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.8 runs per game this season. As for Germantown, they will square off against Tupelo at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday.
