Volleyball Game Preview: Henry Clay Blue Devils vs. Trinity Shamrocks

The Henry Clay Blue Devils will head out on the road to take on the Trinity Shamrocks at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Henry Clay will be strutting in after a victory while Trinity will be coming in after a defeat.

Henry Clay took a loss when they played away from home on Tuesday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Thursday. They were the clear victors by a 3-0 margin over Sayre.

The 3-0 score doesn't show just how dominant Henry Clay was: they took every set by at least 16 points. The final score came out to 25-5, 25-9, 25-7.

Jonny Pineda and Cooper Pugh were among the main playmakers for Henry Clay as the former had 24 assists and four aces and the latter had 12 digs and two aces. That's the most aces Pineda has posted since back in May of 2024.

Henry Clay couldn't miss and finished the game having scored on 52.1% of their attack attempts. That's the best hitting percentage they've posted all season.

Meanwhile, Trinity faced St. Xavier in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Monday. The Shamrocks fell 3-1 to the Tigers. The Shamrocks haven't had much luck with the Tigers recently, as the team has come up short the last six times they've met.

Trinity started the match hot and won the first set, but they struggled down the stretch and lost the last three. The match finished with set scores of 19-25, 25-23, 25-21, 25-22.

Trinity's loss dropped their record down to 12-3. As for Henry Clay, they are on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 14-6 record this season.

Henry Clay couldn't quite get it done against Trinity in their previous matchup back in March as they fell 2-0. Can the Blue Devils avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
