Football Game Preview: Incarnate Word Academy Angels vs. Annapolis Christian Academy Warriors

The Incarnate Word Academy Angels will face off against the Annapolis Christian Academy Warriors at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Incarnate Word Academy has given up an average of 37.5 points per game this season, but Friday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Incarnate Word Academy had been on a five-game streak of scoring at least 31 points, but Agua Dulce put an end to it last Friday. The Angels were outmatched by the Longhorns and fell 49-6. The contest marked the Angels' lowest-scoring matchup so far this season.

Despite the loss, Incarnate Word Academy got top-tier performance from Noah Lopez, who rushed for 111 yards and a pair of scores on only 14 carries, and also threw for 202 yards and three TDs. Connor Costley was another key player, picking up 41 receiving yards and a pair of touchdowns.

Meanwhile, Annapolis Christian Academy had already won four in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 35 points) and they went ahead and made it five on Friday. They breezed past the Eagles to the tune of 50-0. Given the Warriors' advantage in MaxPreps' Texas football rankings (they are ranked 131st, while the Eagles are ranked 267th) , the win wasn't entirely unexpected.

Annapolis Christian Academy didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Darrian Wallace and Jack Martinez. Martinez got in on the action too, converting a pick into a touchdown.

Incarnate Word Academy's defeat dropped their record down to 4-2. As for Annapolis Christian Academy, their win bumped their record up to 5-1.

Friday's game might be decided on the ground. Incarnate Word Academy has been unstoppable on the ground this season, having averaged 249.2 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Annapolis Christian Academy struggles in that department as they've been averaging 190.8 rushing yards.
