Baseball Recap: Thunderbird Starts off Right with Win over North Canyon

Thunderbird gave their fans exactly what they wanted out of a home opener on Wednesday. They blew past the North Canyon Rattlers 12-4.

Austin Coates was a major factor no matter where he played. On the mound, he struck out seven batters over five innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off six hits. Coates was also big at the plate, scoring a run while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.

In other batting news, Cayden Litopoulos and Andrew Cohill did most of the damage at the plate: Litopoulos scored three runs and stole two bases while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances, while Cohill went 2-for-4 with three RBI, one triple, and one run. That's the most stolen bases Litopoulos has posted since back in March of 2024. Another player making a difference was Hunter Donathan, who scored two runs and stole a base while getting on base in two of his four plate appearances.

Thunderbird wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next matchup, an 11-1 win against South Mountain on the 27th. As for North Canyon, they have also already played their next contest, a 17-0 loss against Skyline on the 27th.
