Football Recap: Highland Park Takes a Loss

Highland Park extended their losing streak to three on Friday, dropping them down to 2-3. They came up short against the Metuchen Bulldogs, falling 36-13. The Owls were not able to make up for their loss to the Bulldogs from their previous meeting back in October of 2024.

As for Metuchen, the win snapped their losing streak at three games and leaves them with a 2-4 record. Their offense finally found a way to get into gear: the high-octane performance was a 180-degree turn from their last three games.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Metuchen to victory, but perhaps none more so than Cameron Hayes-Durina, who threw for 342 yards and three TDs while completing 77.8% of his passes, and also rushed for 50 yards. Those 342 passing yards gave Hayes-Durina a new career-high. Metuchen's leading receiver Justus Leitner was Hayes-Durina's top target yet again, picking up 183 receiving yards and one score.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Highland Park will host Roselle Park at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Metuchen, they will take on J.P. Stevens at 6:00 p.m. on Friday.
