Softball Recap: Mt. Carmel Takes a Loss

Mt. Carmel dropped their record down to 15-10 on Friday, which also ended the team's three-game streak of wins on the road. They lost 6-0 to the Westview Wolverines. Having soared to a lofty 18 runs in the game before, the Sundevils' shutout was a dramatic turnaround.

Mt. Carmel saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Riley Ronald, who went 1-for-3 with one double.

As for Westview, the victory was the fifth in a row for them, bringing their record up to 17-8-1. Considering they have won 12 matchups by more than five runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.

On Westview's side, the result came thanks to Kaya Rodriguez's shutout, as she gave up just three hits and racked up nine Ks. Rodriguez has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in 14 consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Kamilla Taraila was excellent, going 2-for-3 with two runs and one triple.

Looking ahead, Mt. Carmel will head out to face off against Sage Creek at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Westview, they will be playing at home against Helix at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Wolverines 2.3, the Highlanders 3.1) so any runs scored will be well earned.
