The Arroyo Knights will take on the South El Monte Eagles at 3:30 p.m. on Monday. Both come into the match bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Arroyo's pitching crew heads into the game hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Friday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 2-0 win over Marshall.
The result came thanks to Richard Inostroz's shutout, as he gave up just four hits and racked up six Ks.
On the hitting side, Arroyo secured the victory behind a pair of hitters. One of them was Noah Fonseca, who went 1-for-2 with one RBI.
Meanwhile, South El Monte made easy work of Rosemead on Friday and carried off a 6-0 win. The Eagles might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won eight contests by six runs or more this season.
Not much got past Ryan Leon, who gave up just four hits and racked up eight Ks to keep Rosemead off the board. Leon has been consistent for a while: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in nine consecutive appearances.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Armando Huizar, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI. He is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last three games he's played. Another player making a difference was Justin Sanchez, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with one stolen base, one run, and one double.
South El Monte has been performing well recently as they've won nine of their last 11 matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 18-7 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.3 runs over those games. As for Arroyo, their win bumped their record up to 12-9-1.
