Baseball Game Preview: Villanova Prep Wildcats vs. Cate Rams

The Villanova Prep Wildcats will square off against the Cate Rams at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Villanova Prep has a tough task ahead: they'll enter the matchup with three straight defeats, while Cate will come in with three straight victories.

Last Thursday, Villanova Prep came up short against Dunn and fell 8-3.

The home team had come away the winner the last four times Cate and Santa Clara had met, but sadly for the fans who attended this one that wasn't the case. The Rams blew past the Saints 17-1 on Thursday. The result was nothing new for the Rams, who have now won four games by six runs or more so far this season.

Peter Lehman spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered a run (which was unearned) on one hit and racked up 15 Ks. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't tossed less than eight strikeouts in three consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Quinn Pullen was incredible, going a perfect 4-for-4 with four runs, four RBI, and two doubles. Those four hits gave him a new career-high. Noah Casbarro was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while going 3-for-5.

Pullen wasn't the only one making solid contact: Cate kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.

Villanova Prep's loss dropped their record down to 1-4. As for Cate, their win bumped their record up to 5-3.

Villanova Prep might still be hurting after the 14-2 defeat they got from Cate in their previous matchup back in April of 2024. Can the Wildcats avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
