Softball Recap: Slippery Rock Comes Up Short

Slippery Rock extended their losing streak (dating back to last season) to ten on Thursday, dropping their season record down to 0-8 in the process. They took a 14-10 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Grove City Eagles. The Rockets were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Eagles apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in May of 2024.

Savannah Smith made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 3-for-4 with one home run, three runs, and two RBI. She also put up a double, which was her first of the season. Christy Frazier was another key player, going 3-for-4 with four RBI, one run, and one double.

As for Grove City, they are on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five games. That's provided a nice bump to their 5-4 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.8 runs over those games.

On Grove City's side, the team relied heavily on Remi Stillwagon, who went 3-for-4 with one home run, three runs, and four RBI. Another player making a difference was Lily Rihel, who went 2-for-5 with two stolen bases, three runs, and two doubles.

Coincidentally, Slippery Rock and Grove City will both be playing Hickory the next time they take the field. The Rockets will host the Hornets at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, while the Eagles will head out to face them at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
