Basketball Preview: South Caldwell Spartans vs. Freedom Patriots
South Caldwell has enjoyed a two-game homestand but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. They will face off against the Freedom Patriots at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Given that the two teams suffered a loss in their last game, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this game.
Last Friday, South Caldwell was the victim of a rough 65-45 defeat at the hands of the Pioneers. While losing is never fun, South Caldwell can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 217th, while the Pioneers are ranked eighth).
Lillie Bumgarner put forth a good effort for the losing side as she scored 23 points. She is trending in the right direction, as she's improved her point production for three games straight.
Meanwhile, Freedom ended up a good deal behind the Panthers on Friday and lost 54-37.
South Caldwell has not been sharp recently as the team's lost nine of their last 11 games, which put a noticeable dent in their 9-11 record this season. As for Freedom, their defeat dropped their record down to 11-8.
South Caldwell lost to the Patriots on the road by a decisive 53-37 margin in their previous meeting back in January. Can South Caldwell avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
