Basketball Preview: West Rowan Falcons vs. Concord Spiders
After five games on the road, West Rowan is heading back home. They will take on the Concord Spiders at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, the two teams will really light up the scoreboard.
Last Tuesday, West Rowan didn't have too much breathing room in their contest against the Cougars, but they still walked away with a 69-64 victory.
West Rowan's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Will Givens Jr., who scored 15 points along with six rebounds. Another player making a difference was Elijah Holmes, who scored 16 points.
Meanwhile, Concord earned a 68-59 win over the Knights on Tuesday.
It was another big night for Jeremiah Howard, who dropped a double-double on 12 points and 16 rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Kyzen Coleman, who scored nine points along with eight rebounds and two steals.
West Rowan's win was their fifth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 11-7. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 66.0 points per game. As for Concord, their win bumped their record up to 11-8.
Friday's game is shaping up to be a masterclass in shooting: West Rowan have been dynamite from deep this season, having made 41.6% of their threes per game. However, it's not like Concord struggles in that department as they've made 42.4% of their threes this season. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
West Rowan couldn't quite finish off the Spiders when the teams last played back in December of 2023 and fell 66-64. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Concord's Jaden Reid, who scored 16 points. Now that West Rowan knows the damage he can cause, will they be able to stop him this time?
