Basketball Game Preview: St. Laurence Vikings vs. Chicago Mt. Carmel Caravan

The St. Laurence Vikings will head out to take on the Chicago Mt. Carmel Caravan at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. St. Laurence will be strutting in after a win while Chicago Mt. Carmel will be coming in after a loss.

St. Laurence is headed into the matchup after thoroughly thrashing IC Catholic Prep: they outscored them in every quarter. St. Laurence put the hurt on IC Catholic Prep with a sharp 72-47 victory on Friday. The Vikings have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won nine contests by 25 points or more this season.

Meanwhile, Chicago Mt. Carmel came up short against Loyola Academy on Friday and fell 67-57. The loss was a bit of a surprise, as the Caravan came into the game with a sizable advantage in MaxPreps' Illinois basketball rankings (they are ranked ninth, while the Ramblers are ranked 47th).

St. Laurence will have to contain Cameron Thomas as he made an impact in Chicago Mt. Carmel's last game. He went 9 of 17 on his way to 23 points and five boards. Thomas' evening made it five games in a row in which he has scored at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Grant Best, who posted 11 points and five rebounds.

St. Laurence's win bumped their record up to 17-5. As for Chicago Mt. Carmel, their defeat ended a four-game streak of away wins and brought them to 18-4.

St. Laurence came up short against Chicago Mt. Carmel in their previous matchup back in January of 2024, falling 63-50. Can St. Laurence avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
